Nothing Like A Perfect Set Of Lashes!

Hello long lashes!

We all want thick, long, and full eyelashes. And to be honest we are not all blessed with a perfect set. There are tons of mascaras on the market and all will claim to deliver perfect lashes but it’s all about finding the right one that works for you. Here are a few that everyone is ranting and raving about.

Givenchy Phenomen’Eyes:

What makes this mascara different from the others is the ball brush applicator. The ball allows you to grab every lash from root to tip with precision. You can reach the extreme inner and outer corners of your eye while achieving curl and volume.

Lancome Hypnose:

Known for adding volume without the clumping. If you are looking for thicker lashes Hypnose is for you. It is an ultra-light fluid that allows you to build your lashes without smearing or smudging. The brush has 1000 sensor bristles so you can apply the mascara from root to tip while separating each lash.

Dior Diorshow:

If you’re opting for an ultra glam look, this is the mascara for you. Just like its name, this mascara was created for the runways. The big brush applicator separates each lash adding volume and length. Diorshow is best for those who already have long lashes and just want to add volume and thickness.

CoverGirl LashBlast Waterproof:

This is more affordable option for those on a budget. The large rubber bristled brush separates and lengthens without clumps. For those who have straight lashes, this is for you! It keeps lashes perfectly curled. The waterproof formula doesn’t smudge but it could be difficult removing it at the end of the day.

Maybelline Great Lash:

Can’t forget this one! It has been on the market for years and it is said that one is sold every 1.5 minutes. Great Lash conditions as it thickens without clumps. This is perfect if you are looking for a natural full look without looking too dramatic.

Take your pick and get ready to bat those lashes.

A Pretty Face, Or A Hot Body?

I was reading Cosmopolitan the other day and came across a poll that was taken amongst guys who would choose a pretty face, or a hot body? It’s very seldom that polls like this ever get a second glance from me, but it was actually quite entertaining.

The poll said that men would prefer a pretty face over a hot body, but would ditch a pretty girl if the ‘package’ came along – pause, let’s take a moment to have men entertain us from all over the world shall we?;)

Thus, when I came home, I went online to see what men and women had to say on this topic, as I was quite intrigued, but didn’t really come up with much. I even went onto this site I love roaming around on from time to time – www.askmen.com (for those of you men that have never visited it before, you should, it’s a great site!), but nada. So I ask you ladies, or gents (you are always more than welcome to the Yn’S), what would you prefer, a hot body, or a pretty face?

Bad Habits that = Aged Smiles

So I was at a dinner the other night, and was very thoroughly enjoying my meal with a great glass of wine, great dessert, and ended it with a very tasty cappuccino. Sounds like a great dinner right?…Well it was until I was told by my dinner company that I had some bad habits to work on if I was trying to avoid aging. Got me intrigued so I continued to listen and was told of many bad habits we all seem to inhabit. bad_habits_logo

Did you know drinking coffee, wines, pop, and eating mustard, ketchup, and pasta’s can completely discolor your teeth? And that consuming these foods and beverages at a frequent rate can damage your teeth? These foods will cause cavities and plaque which in turn, becomes acidic.

How many of you grind your teeth whilst sleeping? Bet you don’t even know you’re doing it. I had no idea I was doing it until cracks were pointed out in my teeth. I was also told that if I don’t get a night guard it will cause my face to start sagging because my teeth will lose the support guard. By grinding your teeth you will wear down the enamel, which will cause about 10 years of aging to your face (you better believe I have a night guard, no sagging for me)!

Thankfully I never took on the bad habit of smoking, but ladies if you do, please listen up. Smoking causes gum disease. I was told that if you smoke one pack a day, you will most likely loose 2 to 3 teeth every 5 to 10 years. Smoking also stops saliva to produce which is essential to a clean and fresh mouth. Bad breath is right up there as well. Yes we can smell you smokers, there is no gum that will cover up that odor.

Lastly, ladies please stop using your teeth as bottle openers, cutting scissors, or shell crackers. They are your teeth, treat them well. When you are eating, that should be the only time your teeth touch. Any kind of pressure will cause cracks and chips. Once you have a fractured tooth, you have to learn to live without it. So be very careful with what and how you’re using your mouth.

I hope these few pointers were helpful. They were for me. Take your health very seriously, we live in a day and age of convenience. However don’t short change your longevity of beauty by making short cuts!!!

Bizarre, Unusual and Crazy Beauty Products – Read On…

So this week was an interesting week, starting from creepy crawlies in my house, to hiking on a trail and being “chased” by a snake, and then to top it off I ate raw fish for the first time and nearly gagged in this beautiful restaurant. Need I say more?! So I take all these interesting moments and share them with good ol’ mom. She then proceeded to tell me that most of the old remedies from way back when, all come from these interesting creatures, and the sea world.poisonous-toxic-venom-antivenom-snake-fangs-treatment-2007-n

I took that conversation very seriously actually and like all of you would, became obsessed to see where and how. So I did some serious hunting…and here is what I came up with.

Did you know that snail slime helps in improving your skin texture?!  It reduces skin scars and it also helps in reducing ingrown hairs. It’s actually also used in treating fractures and sprains. It apparently has some powerful stuff that helps in setting the fractures.

Bioskincare Cream has 80-percent snail secretion (slime) and is an all natural cream. Runs for about 60$ Cdn.

Okay ready for this one? Snake venom…oh boy. Yes apparently this venom has great amounts of protein, toxins, and enzymes. These enzymes help in reducing wrinkles; it diminishes fine lines and keeps the skin hydrated.

UltraLuxe-9 Age control complex is one of the best products out there for using a synthetic version of this venom. It runs for about $185 Cdn.

The best I found was Wasabi…yes what we eat with good ol’ Sushi. (Should have had some at that dinner) L  Anyway, Japanese horseradish has powerful enzymes that kill all nasty germs. Such is the reason wasabi is served with raw fish. Those enzymes have also been used to treat acne and rosacea. It also increases circulation.

Naturopathica’s Green Tea Wasabi Mask is the top runner for this type of product. It goes for about $60 Cdn.

So here you go if anyone dares to try any of these products, please email us and share your results. The young and sassy would love to hear your thoughts on this bizarre piece.

Unhappy Split Ends!!

Every time, and I mean every time, I go to my hair dresser, I ask her the SAME question…why do I get split ends???…(argh!) Yes ladies I do understand your frustration, it’s so incredibly annoying and actually embarrassing. But wait…I just may be able to help you now.

So the real reason hair splits at the ends is usually from lack of poor diets, you probably brush your hair when it’s wet, being dehydrated in the summer season, or simply from the dying and chemical treatments you give your hair.

The smartest way to simply avoid split ends is to get a trim every six weeks. And No! ladies by not getting your hair trimmed won’t make your hair longer..lol. Remember once your hair is split from the bottom there are no ways to repair it. You HAVE to get it trimmed so that it doesn’t climb higher and higher. No product on the shelve can repair your split ends, however massaging oils like the Moroccan Oil regularly can hydrate your scalp and lead to a shiny locks.Split Ends

My personal secret; which I’m sharing today, because Sonya made me, is that I wash my hair with yogurt and milk mixed together every six weeks to keep my hair shiny. (I love being organic as much as I can with beauty products!)

What Defines A Confident and Classy Woman?

She’s that woman that will walk into a room and turn heads. She’s that woman who’s got that strut in her stride, that huge smile and warm ambiance about her. She’s got that posture, one moment it can mean take charge, and another moment it simply means she’s a woman who is very comfortable in her own skin (and in her shoes). She’s that woman that has every man chasing after her, and longing for her.a3land1

You know who I’m talking about…that woman. The confident one. You all know her.

So the question is, what makes her so confident, what does she have that you don’t, or that you may be fighting to achieve? Well…

For one, she’s comfortable and secure with who she is, who she has grown to be, who she has become. She doesn’t need material possessions to validate her, but what she does have is positive energy which surrounds her, and which she exudes.

She is so secure within her self that even if she may not even be the most attractive woman you ever met, she’ll convince you otherwise. Not through her words, but through her actions. She under promises and over delivers.

She has an ambition about her, a determination, motivation and perseverance. And continuously achieves her goals.

She is lady like, and has poise, etiquette and manners.

She is elegant, classy, humble and has a certain humility to her.

She is generous, giving, thankful and loving.

She has a sexual lure about her, but one that isn’t promiscuous.

She is confident….and classy.

Here’s to YOU, our ladies, at the Young And Sassy.

The Best Brow

Most Indian women are naturally born with beautiful eyebrows. The key is to maintain them. Ideally your brow should be proportioned with your face. If you’ve got more prominent features, you should really stick to full brows. If you have petite features, you should go on the thinner side of things. Having said that, eyebrows should never be pencil thin. Your length should always be longer then the eye length.Kardashian

There are many hair removal options. Most Indian women prefer threading. It’s an ancient technique invented. By using this method it allows your esthetician to be as accurate as possible. For first timers, I suggest you go for threading as this will determine your shape for the rest of your life. Waxing is another good method; however you have to be extremely careful the way your eyelid gets pulled. If it’s not done properly your skin may start to sag earlier then expected. Also your eyes are a very sensitive area, using warmer temperatures can also cause some harm. Tweezing should only be done if you have in-growths.Megan Fox

To prevent breakouts near your eyes I suggest you use Clarins Beauty repair cream. Also apply aloe vera or calamine lotion to avoid redness and puffiness around the eyes.

Some leading ladies, as you can see, with great eyebrows would be Megan Fox, Priyanka Chopra and Kim Kardashian.

Cartier – the great love affair

How far back do the tales of diamonds take us? As far as history is concerned, each time a diamond comes into a woman’s life, history is made. Around the world, different moments are created. Cartier, the world’s most import-diamondssignificant jewelry house, which was founded in 1847, creates such extreme love affairs for each of its clients. Cartier’s most exclusive jewels have been worn by extravagant women like Elizabeth Taylor, beauty princesses like Aishwarya Rai, powerful women like Sonia Gandhi, and divas like Eva Langoria.

The competitive man has also created some incredible platforms of jewels. In fact, Bhupinder Singh of Patiala marks history of owning the largest piece of jewelry in the world, a 235.65 carat yellow diamond necklace.

Cartier has gone on to making the best of jewelry, watches, and many luxury items. Along with creating some incredible pieces that are placed on the left hand, sealed with a promise. With its sparkle, Cartier has been able to capture the most priceless jewel, ones heart.

Women We Love!

Independent, Successful, Sexy, South Asian, North American Women whom we love – Whew! (And in no particular order of course!)

1)      Padma Lakshmipadma-lakshmi-picture-2

Just recently conducted an interview with Padma, and I have to say she is so incredibly down to earth, sweet, and humble, I don’t care what anyone says!

A cook at heart, writer of her own cookbooks, owns her own Jewellry line called ‘Padma’, is the host of the reality show Top Chef, is there anything that this woman doesn’t do?? Oh yes, I forgot to mention model;)

2)      Saira MohanSaira Mohan

Saira Mohan was also recently interviewed by one of the host’s that works alongside myself at the station.

Although successful for many years prior in New York City, she was launched into international fame in 2003 after Newsweek put her on the cover with the headline “The Perfect Face”. She is actively involved with product endorsements worldwide. She is married, and has a son named Romen Alexandre.  She was ranked #91 on the Maxim Hot 100 Women of 2002. (Wikipedia)

3)      Frieda Pintofreida-pinto

Before starring in SlumDog Millionaire Pinto anchored the international travel show, Full Circle on Zee International Asia Pacific in English between 2006-08. Pinto was also featured in several television and print advertisements for products such as Wrigley’s Chewing Gum, Škoda, Vodafone India, Airtel, and DeBeers. Pinto modeled for four years and appeared in runway shows and magazine covers. She learned acting from The Barry John’s Acting Studio in Andheri and was trained by her mentor Barry John.  After six months of auditions, she received a call to audition for Slumdog Millionaire. As we all know, Pinto auditioned for Danny Boyle and was short-listed and finally selected to star in the incredible Oscar Winning Movie Slumdog Millionaire. (Wikipedia)

4)      Lakshmi MenonLakshmi Menon

‘Lakshmi Menon is an Indian model. Best known for her work with Givenchy, she’s not the traditional Bollywood beauty. Armed with a degree in developmental sociology and a habit of always telling the truth, Lakshmi Menon is the kind of woman who was sorely missing from your school debate team. Known around the industry for her deep stare and her pout, these trademarks eerily match her sometimes-pessimistic views.

Books like The Great Gatsby are part of a relaxing (and rare) day off, along classical music and the blues. When she’s not running four times a week to keep her high-priced 5’10” body in shape, she’ll slip on a sundress and chill at her quiet Goa hillside house.’ – askmen.com

5)      Anoushka ShankarAnoushkaShankar

I saw this beautiful woman perform live alongside her very talented father Ravi Shankar. The sounds that come out of her sitar are undescribable, you honestly have to catch her live in concert to experience first hand what I had the honor of experiencing.

Shankar began training on the sitar with her father as a child, gave a public performance at the age of thirteen, and signed her first record contract at 16.

She released her first album, Anoushka, in 1998. Later, in February 2000, Shankar became the first woman to perform at The Ramakrishna Centre in Kolkata. Both Shankar and her half-sister, Norah Jones, were nominated for Grammy awards in 2003. (Wikipedia)

6)      Norah JonesNorahJones

Norah Jones was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 30, 1979 to Sitar maestro Ravi Shankar and Sue Jones.

She once said, “My mom had this eight-album Billie Holiday set, I picked out one disc that I liked and played that over and over again.” (Wikipedia) And clearly, the rest is history. Very talented. Very gracious. You should pick up one of her albums if you ever get a chance, it’s definately worth listening to.

7)      Persis KhambattaPersis_khambatta

Khambatta began modeling at the age of 13. At age 15, Khambatta became Miss India in 1965, dressed in off-the-rack clothes she bought at the last minute.

She participated in the Miss Universe 1965 pageant, but did not achieve much success in Bollywood or other Indian movie industries, partially due to her relatively Western looks, which appeared unconventional for most Indian audiences. She later entered the world of international movies.

Khambatta became a model for companies such as Revlon. In 1975, she had small roles in Conduct Unbecoming and The Wilby Conspiracy. She went on to a brief movie career that included the role for which she is most recognized, as navigator Lieutenant Ilia in Star Trek: The motion picture. (Wikipedia)

8)      Lisa RayLisa Ray

Lisa Ray was finishing high school in Canada with aspirations of majoring in Journalism at University when a celebrated fashion magazine approached her to model for them, and she ended up on the cover. This catapulted her into a state of instant celebrity. Her high-profile career got her noticed by Indian filmmakers, but she refused many offers until the offbeat _Kasoor (2000)_, which received a considerable amount of attention. Indian-Canadian director Deepa Mehta then cast her as the lead in the lighthearted romantic comedy Bollywood/Hollywood (2002), which went on to be a huge success in Canada. She subsequently moved to London to study acting and concentrate on a serious career in the performing arts. After graduating from drama school she was reunited with Deepa Mehta in the critically lauded Water (2005/I). She has since carved out a challenging variety of characterizations- everything from a farm girl to a femme fatale- which is a testament to her adaptability and desire for challenge. (IMDb)

9)      Sarah Shahisarah_shahi

Aahoo Jahansouz  also known as Sarah Shahi (born January 10, 1980) is an American actress of Spanish-Iranian descent. A former NFL Cheerleader, Shahi was named #90 on the Maxim magazine “Hot 100 of 2005” list; she moved up to #66 in 2006. Sarah is married to actor Steve Howey whom she met on the set of Reba in 2004. She has starred in The L Word and in Life. (Wikipedia)

10)   Parminder NagraParminder Nagra

Parminder Nagra, who scored with audiences and critics alike as a soccer-playing English teenager in the surprise hit film “Bend It Like Beckham,” joined the cast of “ER” as third-year medical student Neela Rasgotra in a decidedly less athletic role.

“She’s somebody who seems astute, very hardworking and keen to learn,“ said Nagra. “I’d also say that I am somebody who is hardworking and keen to learn — although I do have my lazy days!”

Nagra was born and raised in Leicester, England but her family is originally from the state of Punjab in India. She admits that she had no formal acting training but that it was something she fell in to.

“I didn’t even know if I wanted to become so involved with the business,” said Nagra. “Because it was more of a gradual thing, my parents got used to it.” – And we’re glad they did, we simply adore you Miss Nagra;)
